THE HOUSE – CORNELL UNIVERSITY, NYC CAMPUS

The House at Cornell Tech on Roosevelt Island is the world’s tallest Passive House, conforming to the most rigorous international green building standards. The 352-unit apartment building rises to 26 stories. Taitem provided Aeroseal duct sealing services for this project.

An airtight enveloper, ERV’s are among some of the energy-saving systems that contribute to an educational goal of the building’s developers—which wanted the House to be a tangible example of eco-conscious living. A lobby monitor keeps a public tally of the House’s energy consumption in comparison with other structures built to code. Compared to conventional construction, the building is projected to save 882 tons of CO2 per year, equal to planting 5,300 new trees.
