PURITY ICE CREAM BUILDING

Purity Ice Cream, an original Ithaca company that is widely considered a Finger Lakes icon, was founded in 1936. In 1998, Bruce and Heather Lane bought Purity with an eye towards revitalizing it. In 2014 they decided to renovate and expand their location. The Purity Ice Cream retail store maintained its 3,430 SF iconic front portion of the building along with interior spaces. The expanded area is used for additional seating, queuing areas and a new serving area.

The project also included a 1,000SF commercial kitchen for Purity Ice Cream. Construction was coordinated so that the ice cream shop could stay open during the renovation. The complete renovation also included the back (west) portion of the building being built-out for commercial tenancy with ample room for office unit.

Taitem supported the revitalization project with full design and construction phase for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural. Taitem’s design work included a geothermal heat pump system with a vertical well field and specifications for a solar PV system.
