KENDAL AT ITHACA
Kendal retirement communities are Quaker-affiliated not-for-profit continuum-of-care facilities which aim to transform the experience of aging. Kendal at Ithaca is located in the Cayuga Heights neighborhood and consists of 47 buildings. The largest is the Community Building Complex, housing a community center, health center, and apartments, totaling about 200,000 SF. There are also 169 cottage units arranged in clusters of four, with a total conditioned space of 180,000 SF.
Taitem conducted a NYSERDA ResTech energy study for Kendal, identifying low-cost/no-cost improvements as well as recommending several significant capital upgrades including a new energy management system, boiler replacement, and energy recovery ventilation. Taitem was then hired to design the energy improvements and to provide full construction administration and commissioning services.
